Canadian Hydro Developers Inc., operates a 1350kW small hydro generating station, located at Appleton, Ontario, Canada shown in the following images prior to upgrade. The hydraulic, control and protection equipment was subsequently upgraded with Powerbase Platform Modules.
This site consists of two single regulated and one double regulated, 450kW, Kaplin turbines each with induction generators.
The existing hydraulics have been replaced with integrated, self-diagnostic Powerbase Hydraulic Power Units.
Note the removal of extra gauges, tubing and hoses. Therefore reducing the potential for leaks and contamination. These are the before and after photos.
Note the complicated and labour intensive wiring previously existing in the switchgear shown in the left hand photo below. A retrofit with Powerbase Platform Modules on the right hand side provides neat wiring and easy access for maintenance.
In the photo at right, note the neatness of the front door with instant access to system status through the GDI-20 display.
The photo at right shows a typical high pressure Hydraulic Power Unit. Its compact size is due to a small oil reservoir. Note the accumulator to the side.
